Before We Begin

Indian historical fiction has always been one of my favourite genres.

There is something fascinating about travelling back in time through stories—exploring lost civilizations, forgotten worlds, and imagining the lives of people who existed centuries ago.

Daughter of Two Rivers by Arun Krishnan had been sitting on my TBR for a long time.

And honestly, the first thing that caught my attention was the title.

But then came the cover.

And yes, I admit it—I am someone who sometimes judges a book by its cover! This one immediately grabbed my attention.

Thankfully, the story delivered an equally fascinating experience.

About the Book

Daughter of Two Rivers is an Indian historical fiction that takes readers into a world inspired by ancient civilizations, warrior traditions, and forgotten histories.

The story follows Lilith, also known as Chitrangada, a strong and fierce warrior navigating a world filled with danger, power struggles, and destiny.

Alongside her journey is Arjun, whose character brings the classic gentleman hero energy—balanced, honourable, and supportive.

The novel beautifully combines historical imagination with elements inspired by the Saraswati Valley civilization and the ancient city of Babylon, creating a fascinating blend of cultures and timelines.

What Worked for Me

Lilith aka Chitrangada

The biggest highlight of the book for me was Lilith.

I absolutely loved her strong warrior personality. She is fierce, determined, and carries the kind of strength that makes her a memorable protagonist.

Her character brings energy to the story and makes the journey more engaging.

The Historical Setting

The Saraswati Valley civilization angle was one of the most fascinating parts of the book.

The idea of exploring ancient civilizations, forgotten cities, and historical mysteries immediately pulled me into the story.

The inclusion of the ancient fabled city of Babylon added another interesting layer to the narrative.

Fast-Paced Storytelling

The biggest surprise for me was how quickly I moved through this book.

This was the first paperback I finished in two days after a long time.

The pacing keeps the story moving, making it an easy and engaging read for historical fiction lovers.

Arjun's Character

Arjun brings the classic gentleman hero personality to the story.

While Lilith remains the stronger force for me, Arjun's character adds balance with his honour, loyalty, and supportive nature.

Could Have Been Better

The Title Confusion

After finishing the book, I am still not completely sure about the title.

The story itself was fascinating, but I found myself wondering about the connection between the title and the overall narrative.

The Ending

The ending genuinely broke my heart.

After witnessing all the struggles, battles, and challenges the characters go through, the conclusion felt emotionally difficult to process.

It was the kind of ending where you sit quietly thinking, "After everything… did it really have to end this way?"

The Mystery of Saraswati Civilization

One aspect that stayed with me even after finishing the book was thinking about the Saraswati Valley civilization.
